BUICAC Round 1
BUICAC is an inter-university commercial awareness competition specifically for non-Russell Group university students. Round 1 had us answer 30 MCQ’s in 14 minutes. While I did not progress to the second round, I found this round helped me understand what areas I need to improve my understanding and helped highlight which areas I knew best.

Internal Moot
I took part in an internal moot (mock trial) with my university. I was the senior counsel for the respondent. I found the experience was fun, but a LOT of hard work. I had to organise my time very well as I had to balance my university work, extra-curriculars, and legal research for the moot.

Legal tech, tools, and trends
I took part in this session that was focused on legal technologies, what they are, how they have evolved to make life easier now, and where the speaker sees them progressing in the future. The talk opened my eyes to how broad the topic of legal tech is and how, seemingly mundane software, has a specific use in a legal context.

BUICAC X BCLP open day
This open day offered a lot of great insight into the life of trainees; how they got their training contracts, why they chose BCLP, and what helped them during their training contract. We had a talk about what diversity and inclusion is at the firm and the different initiatives we can get involved in. A partner at the firm offered us an insight into his career at the firm and how he got into his niche sector. Finally, there was a talk from the early careers team about the application process, which included tips on how to do particularly well at each of its stages.

Legal affairs wrap up
This session provided me with an overview of the most important legal news over the month of October. The news stories were presented by category and there was an explanation of why the story was important and possible commercial implications of the story. I really enjoyed this session, especially as I got an insight into important stories from sectors I never pay attention to (such as cryptocurrency).
